THE AREA

Aix-en-Provence is a city in the south of France, the historical capital of the Roman province of Provence and of the former province of that name, today part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The city is about 30 km north of Marseille, in the district of the Rhone estuary

It has many energies and attractive charm. It is a lively but not crowded city, with old and preserved buildings, about 17 fountains in different shapes and sizes scattered around the center, and fashionable people who give the sense of chic that the French know how to give so well. The successful combination of old and new here makes this diverse city a popular tourist destination

The central location of Aix - a short drive from the city of Arles, the historic city of Avignon and of course Marseilles - and the fruit, vegetable, flower and antique markets around it are another reason to spend a nice holiday. The University of Ex-Mercy, with the largest number of students today in France, contributes to the young atmosphere of the place.

CITY OF GOOD LIFE

X-en Provence has enjoyed a reputation for the city of good life for more than two thousand years, from the days when the Romans had its own: it has a spa site with hot water springs and baths, and plenty of beautiful fountains, gardens, restaurants and cafes; A city of wines, fruit markets and sweets (the most famous of which is Callisson), the city's traditional sweetener, which is considered to be a special festival.

MAJOR ATTRACTIONS

Start the tour of the city in Cours Mirabeau, in the heart of the city, which is covered by a wide canopy of trees, with beautiful old houses on the sides, decorated fountains and graceful cafes. This is an excellent area for an initial impression of the city, with aristocratic gardens, balconies decorated with sculpture and reliefs, and a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere that also attests to the rest of the city.

In the center of the town square, Place de l 'Hôtel de Ville, a wonderful fountain, on the days when the traditional flower market (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) surround the vendors and visitors in a magical cloud of Provence aroma. The flower market wanders the rest of the week to another wonderful square - Place des Prêcheurs. You should also see the rest of the fountains scattered in the city, such as the Pascal fountain, the Ormeaux fountain, the Espéluque fountain, and the Plaza of Alberta. Close to this elegant square, the Museum of Nature is one of the most beautiful buildings, and represents the stylistic transition from the Baroque to the Rococo of the late seventeenth century.

A TRACK WITH CHILDREN IN PROVENCE

Visit the great Zoo de la Barben where different animals from all over the world. Then proceed to Aqualand Park, a huge and fun water park not far from Aix en Provence

Visit the town of Pirrelatte, where there is a spectacular crocodile farm. The crocodiles live here in an artificial jungle and have hundreds of them - of every species and size. The jungle in the farm has hiking paths, tropical trees and even small African villages

Then continue on to the village of Montboucher sur Jabron where you can visit the Silk Museum, which gives you a glimpse into the silk industry that flourished here once. The museum is in an old and reconstructed factory where you can operate the machines yourself and visualize the complex process of production - from the growth of the worms to the production of expensive silk threads

Go to the town of Aigues Mortes, which lies in the heart of a swamp and water area called Kamaraj. Arrive before 10pm so you can take a cruise between the lakes and canals that surround the city. After a tour of the city - which is especially worth visiting the impressive old town - continue to the Pont de Gau park - a natural park where hiking trails can see many birds, caravans of flamingoes and animals that are their place of living

Visit the town of Lagnes where a rope park called Passerelles des Cimes provides adventures and challenges at different levels of difficulty where the entire family can enjoy.

TRANSFERS

Transfers by bus to Aix-en-Provence from Marseille train station or Marseille Airport every 20-30 minutes

RAIL

The TGV train station offers train service to all major cities in France. It is 13 km from the center of Aix-en-Provence and 11 km from Provence-Marseille Airport.

SELF-DRIVING

In order to reach Provence, in the south-east of France, it is recommended to land in Marseille and travel by car to the main sites
